What Is The Abortion Pill?

The “abortion pill” is the common name for two medications that are used together to terminate a pregnancy: mifepristone and misoprostol. Mifepristone blocks the hormone progesterone, which stops the pregnancy from progressing. Misoprostol is taken 24 to 48 hours after mifepristone and causes bleeding and cramping as the uterus contracts and expels the embryo. These medications are only FDA approved for use up to 10 weeks gestation.

The first pill, mifepristone, is taken at the abortion clinic.
The second pill, misoprostol, is taken at home. A follow-up appointment with a doctor is necessary after taking the abortion pill to determine if the abortion was complete. This care should include both an ultrasound and blood work.

If you have taken mifepristone and are having second thoughts, CALL NOW to speak to with one of our healthcare professionals to see if reversal is possible.
